Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
It always seemed obvious that you would play Gerrard or Lampard and never both.
Obviously Gerrard was the superior all round player so should have been first choice.
Gerrard & Scholes together & Beckham on the right.
Seemed pretty obvious as a midfield base.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
HARGREAVES only got in after Scholes had retired, because of cuntface.

If Scholes had stuck around, him and Gerrard would have been superb together. Just as they were when we smashed the KRAUTS.

Then cunty appeared and the England team has been going downhill ever since.

Was reading this morning that GERRARD is the only player to have scored in the FA cup final, the League cup final, the champions league final and the UEFA cup final. Fella was mustard, and a big game player.

Lampsy, meanwhile, holds the record for the most deflected goals in friendlies, and still holds the record for having the most shots in the world cup without ever scoring. Bravo.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
In his prime, think most would of had him in their team given the chance.
Scored some great goals (except 2006), but will always remember him for making stupid passes. Not the long raking ones, ones where he was pressing forward and passed it direct to them.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
Have to disagree Griffin, I would have had Hargreaves scholes and lamps and then after Hargreaves, Carrick would have slotted in.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
LAMPSY was the entire problem there. Anyone with a pair of eyes knows that Scholes and Gerrard should have been our midfield pairing for years. Both got shunted out left to accommodate the cunt because he wasn't good enough to play there and we never achieved what we should have done as a result. Cheers, cunt.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
I think he was brilliant and under a top manager excelled. All the Scousers I know (and they are many) rank as one of their best ever.

I see the "Goldern Generation" are labelled as "Overrated" on here she I have to disagree. I think the sent of players we had at the turn of the century could and should have won at least two competitions. WC 2002 and Euro 04 were our prime time and we weee very unlucky against a Ronaldinho fluke and even unluckiest against the Portuguese in 2004 where for me we had a legitimate goal ruled out.

Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes were all used badly she failed to make an impact as a result.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
Should have gone to Chelsea when he has the chance. Wasn't he love for Liverpool more to the fact some fans threatened him if he left?

Let's be fair he was a top player and did well for England. Just think we are lumbered with the likes of Henderson and Lingard now.

The England side between 2001 and 2006 although full of hype should have won a major championship. That said they were over hyped after the 5-1 win against an ageing, disorganised and downright awful Germqny team.

Are you stupid ?

Did I say I hate him ? Just don't think he's was as great a player as some have made out. He's also a thick scouse cunt.

I don't give a two fucks about his millions, seeing as they're not overly relevant to a discussion of his ability as a player.

He probably gives as much of a toss about 'a no mark on a West Ham forum' as I do about some cunt who loses his fucking rag every single time he encounters a different opinion of what is, as you rightly say, a forum.

Are you drunk?

I bet the thick scouse cunt, multi millionaire, retired at 36 Gerrard is devestated that a no mark on a West Ham forum hates him.

Still, good entertainment.

Have to say I thought pretty much exactly this when I looked at this thread earlier today.

The reason he was 'all action' was because he's thick scouse cunt. All the tactical nous of a fucking tadpole. Perhaps being such a great athlete hindered him from becoming a better player.

Oh and it's perfectly possible to be a very good player, occasionally great, and still be totally overrated. English football IS totally overrated - you only have to hear those cunts on Sky going on about 'Stevie fucking G' and 'JT'.

Still, it's great entertainment.

With the possible exception of Alonso, I think Gerrard was a slightly different player to those, Gerrard was more 'all action' where they were all about guile, or dare I say it tippy tappy.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
Never been world class.

Had some proper excellent performances in him but never had the brain like the top midfielders of his generation, scholes xavi iniesta busquets alonso pirlo all better than him.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
Overrated?

Behave yourselves. Some of you lot would not know a decent footballer if he came up and hit you over the head with a corner flag.

He was an absolutely unbelievable player. One of the best English players of his generation.

If Marlon Harewood had 2 legs we'd have won in extra time

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
We had THIRTY MORE MINUTES to beat a tired and woefully out-of-sorts Liverpool side and failed.

That's how I see it anyway. We were excellent for 90 minutes but simply not good enough for the next 30 minutes which cost us dearly in the end. We should've been able to find the winning goal in that time.

Fuck knows when we'll next get a chance of glory... Probably not until the ARABS arrive.

Re: Steven Gerrard retires from football
Great club player. Always put a good shift in and led by example.

Still can't watch the final goal when it comes on though. Fuckin scouse cunt.
And he's definitely got a face for the radio now he's packed up.
He looks like he's just fell in that he went on a few Barry Bennell football courses as a nipper.

Truly briliiant player, anyone who says otherwise can't possibly understand the game

Dull? His documented private life suggests not, let alone that alluded too

Criminally mis-mangaged by national coaches and would have walked into any club side in the world

We would have idolised him had he been ours, and dont kid yourselves

"Never did it for his country though"

Gerrard
Lampard
Scholes
Rooney
Dixon
Winterburn
I.Wright
Fowler
J.Barnes

The list is endless but that does not mean they weren't fantastic players.

Even Messi get's criticised at International level for not performing at his best or making the same Impact.

Gerrard had a decent International career that didn't match his club career/form.

'Didn't perform for his country'

Did anyone during that period? A group of very good players let down by shit managers who couldn't pick a team or a system.
